18/12/'04  Tampa, exibition event  -  Unfortunately, Jennifer dropped out of the exhibition charity match against Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova because of a right shoulder injury. She is scheduled to play at the Sydney International, from the 10th of January.

05/11/'04  Philadelphia, quarterfinal: Zvonareva D Capriati  -  Unfortunately, Jennifer has lost against Vera Zvonareva in Philadelphia quarterfinals, so she hasn't qualified for the Wta Tour Championships. Jennifer hasn't played today: she lost 0-6, 1-6. In first set, every games were close, but Jennifer failed all the decisive points. In second set, she lost immediately the serve and went down 0-2; she won the third game, but she wasn't able to recovered the match. Vera Zvonareva played very well but, probably, Jennifer didn't play an official event since too much time (her last match was the US Open semifinal).
So, her 2004 season is over and she will probably drop out of the top 10 in the rankings for the first time since early 2001, because she made the semis in last year's YEC, losing to eventual champion Kim Clijsters.

03/11/'04  Philadelphia, 2nd round: Capriati D Shaughnessy  -  About two months after the last official match (the semifinal at the US Open), Jennifer has won over Meghann Shaughnessy in her first match at the Advanta Championships. Jennifer was able to prevail in a dour match: she lost the first set 4-6, but recovered won the other two for 6-3, 6-4. With this important success, she accedes at the quarterfinal, where she faces the winner between the Russian Vera Zvonareva and the French Nathalie Dechy. Jennifer has won the only previous match against Zvonareva (last year at Indian Wells event) and she leads 5-1 against the French, but she has lost the last match (this year at New Haven tournament). If Jennifer will play against Zvonareva, the loser of this match, can't qualify for the WTA Tour Championships.

30/10/'04  Philadelphia, preview  -  On Monday, the 1st, it starts the indoor Advanta Championships in Philadelphia. Jennifer didn't play it last year. In second set, Jennifer came into the match and, from 2-1 Dementieva, she took two breaks and won it 6-2. Final set was too incredible: the first 4 games were breaks. On 5-4 Dementieva, Jennifer went to serve to remain into the match and won the game. In eleventh game, Jennifer took a break, but lost the next game with the first double-fault of her match. In the tie-break, Dementieva went up 5-2, Jennifer made two points (5-4), but Dementieva has two consecutively match-points on 6-4.
