| Confident Capriati in fine form |
24 giugno 2003
Wimbledon
Jennifer Capriati gave a confident performance as she reached the second
round of Wimbledon today with a 6-1, 6-3 victory aganst Myriam Casanova in 42 minutes.
The eighth seeded American quickly got into a groove against an opponent
world ranked 53. She took just 19 minutes to claim the first set during
their No.1 Court encounter. It was their first meeting and the Swiss girl
must have hoped it was their last as Capriati's imperious form belied the
fact that she has struggled this year.
Capriati, a quarter-finalist 12 months ago, has not won a
tournament this year after having an eye operation to cure problems with
sunlight. But her vision was in perfect working order, along with her
groundstrokes, as she pounded the hapless Casanova into submission.
She said: "I came out to start strong because I knew
she could be dangerous. The key to the second set was to maintain
concentration and not let her back in the match."
