Capriati D Sugiyama 6-1, 7-5

TOUR OFFICIAL: Questions.

Q. Jennifer, you had to fight a little bit in that second set and made a pretty good comeback.
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Yeah, definitely, I had to fight not to go to the third set and just stuck in there and played some good points and maybe she got tight; but, yeah, I'm very happy that I was able to win it in two.

Q. You looked a little frustrated when you were down 5-2; were things not working for you?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Well, I just was playing so well on the first and, you know, she started playing a little better, but I was just a little mad at myself that I let her get this lead and just played some lose points and maybe just lost concentration. But, I mean, I think I got it back pretty good, so at least I'm happy with that. But, yeah, I was a little mad at myself.

Q. Is that something you have learned over the years, like, you know, 5-2 and maybe you sort of go, "All right, let it go and I'll get it in the next one," but did you decide, no, no, you've got to do it now?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Well, it's almost -- you know, because you know you got the third set ahead, you know I just relaxed a little bit and I thought, okay, well, it's pretty close to being over now for this set and just, you know, maybe just let it go and, you know, just play it but without any tension and sometimes that just works for you and the opponent then gets tight. So, yeah, I was just, you know, playing looser at that time because I was just like, okay, well, I can almost put the set behind me a little bit and then started coming back.

Q. What did you do differently from the match that you played against her last week in L.A.?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Oh well, I was totally ready this time. And last time I was definitely tired physically and I just hadn't played her in a long time and just kind of was caught offguard. And, now, from the first point today, from the first point, I was really ready, you know, for her play and just ready to give it all I got and for a battle and, you know, thought this could be a long, tough match, and I felt a lot better physically, so I was just more confident.

Q. Is there a part of her game that gives you trouble kind of?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Well, she's a good mover, and she gets a lot of balls back. You know, she counterpunches pretty well, so that's the thing when you think you maybe have the point 1 she'll come back, and so she may hit that last ball, so errors may come from that. So that's frustrating, and you have just got to be patient. I mean she takes the ball very early so that's kind of difficult. The balls seem a lot faster because she does that, so you have to be really ready.

Q. You were drenched yesterday after your match and I'm wondering if heat was a motivating factor not to get to a third set this time around?

JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Well, actually, I don't think it was as hot today.

Q. No, no, but it's still pretty hot out there, it's humid.
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Yeah, I'm used to that kind of weather -- this kind of weather, being from Florida; and, yeah, I mean, for that reason and just also I didn't want to get into a third set because you never know with her. I mean, when she's got the momentum, she can play unbelievable.

Q. Do you feel there was a turnaround point in the second set when you were trailing 2-5? At what point did you feel the game turn around?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: I mean, at any time there, at any point, especially when maybe I broke for the 5-3, to make it 5-3, so I started to get a little more confidence. I thought I have still a chance on this set maybe.

Q. Jennifer, it looks like you will probably be facing Justine Henin in the next round. You lost to her last time in Rome, I think. Obviously, this is another chance to avenge a match. Can you talk about Justine and what you expect of her, if she gets through?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Well, it was Berlin, and I mean she still has to win, you know, the next match, and I can't really comment. I don't want to think I'm playing her and then, you know, she could lose or whatever. I think the way I'm playing I have just got to play my game and, you know, expect the best from my opponent and, you know, now I expect everyone to play really well against me because it's usually the case, so...

Q. So you don't like to look ahead at a draw and see the prospective opponents who you will be playing?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Not really, no, I try not to.

TOUR OFFICIAL: Anything else? Okay. Thanks.
