| LADIES GERMAN OPEN SEMIFINAL |
May, 8th 2004
Mauresmo D Capriati 6-2, 6-0
Q. You didn’t seem to be getting into gear today?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Getting into gear? She just played too good. I didn’t
have any chance.
Q. Did you have physical problems? Or what was the problem today?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: No, I think I was playing good. It’s tough to play
somebody who is playing so well. In the first set it was close in the games.
Then she picked up her level. If you play somebody like that you can just tip your hat and say she was too good.
Q. Did the fact
that it was heavy out there play any role?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Maybe it favoured her more because my game is a little
flat. Maybe she had that extra time she needed.
Q. When did you feel that the match was slipping away from you?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: In 4, 5 games she only made 1 error. Then you kind of
feel, if someone is too good. It was going real fast.
It’s tough to just totally change your game. It seemed it didn’t matter what
I did, she always had the answer. I didn’t feel I
played that badly. The mistakes came at the end. I was
trying to break her momentum. But, I have to say it was a good tournament
for me. I am very happy with the way it went, even today.
Q. If you compare the match with previous matches against her, what did
she do better?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: She’s played some good matches against me. Maybe she
didn’t make as many mistakes. How do you say: She was
feeling in the zone. That was it basically today.
Q. Would you consider Amelie one of the favourites for the French?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: Yes, after the way she played today.
Q. How do you think your chances are for the French?
JENNIFER CAPRIATI: My chances are just as good. I am definitely not letting
this match set me back. Hopefully I will peak at the
right time. The Grand Slams are a whole different ball game to me.
